I recently sell a IPod to a person in NY. She said she will send the money order and then I should send the IPod to her with the her FedEx account. How does it actually work? She said I should provide the shipping tracking number with USPS so I will get the money. But then how do I know the money order is real before I even ship it to her. Please help me.

Get the money first and then deposit in your bank. Wait at least 3 days before you even send the Ipod. That way you know the money order is real and will clear your bank.

Get the money order first. A money order tracking number just means she purchased a money order. It doesn't meant that she mailed it or made it payable to you. When you get the money order, you can take it to the post office for verification, then deposit it in your bank account.

When you mail something with FedEx, you will also get a tracking number for the package, so she will know where it will be delivered, and when to expect it. Just go to the FedEx/Kinkos, fill out the mailing slip, and mark the "Bill Recipient" box, and include her account number.

Having a trackin gnumber only shows that the other party bought postage to send a letter or package SOMEWHERE in the world and in no way provides proof that she sent anything to you.

Even money orders can be cancelled. Get the money order and CASH IT before you ship the iPod.

If she sends you a USPS (postal) money order, take it to your post office -- they will cash it for you then and there (you will need photo ID).

As for FedEx, take it to the local FedEx store -- they will tell you how to send something and bill it to the recipient's account, it is commonly done.

When you send something by FedEx, it automatically has a tracking number. As for ensuring you get your money, she need to send you the tracking number for the USPS envelope she is sending to you with the money order (this is something she pays extra for, to make sure that the money order gets to you).

I don't think you an call the post office to check. You normally have to physically go in to the post office with the money orders so they can see the paper stock it is printed on and check for the appropriate marks. Take them to the post office and tell them you received these and suspect they may be counterfeit If this is an employer you have never met face to face, it's a scam. If you were told to cash/deposit these then wire a portion to someone through Western Union or Moneygram, it's a scam Take them to the post office in the original envelope. If they are counterfeit then they will turn them over to the Postal Inspector. You won't get in trouble unless you try to cash or deposit them at the bank and they turn out to be fake. If you take them to the post office with your suspicions you won't be in trouble - the person who sent them to you will be the one in trouble Fake Money Orders are very common in money mule scams

take it to the post office... (or bank) either/or should tell you if it's authentic.....but you must get her to pay first. if the money order is good... then cash it, deposit it then send her the goods she paid for.
