I have a furnature company that I have been dealing with regarding my washing machine which hasn't been working for the first year on and off. I talked to the warranty program and they are replacing it. They delivered it today, to my one floor home and said they couldn't install becuase I didn't have a wrench and didn't want to hurt their backs by carrying it 15 feet. I am a wheelchair athlete but cannot carry a washer to my laundry room (on the same floor). What would you do if you were me?

honestly---if you have a paper with a consumer help column or a local news show with a consumer program contact them...they would love to help you out...that company will be out there...fast.

In a way it sounds like there should be a little more to what happened and your communications with the store. To know that may make a difference on how the even is perceived.

Apparently it's a furniture store that also sells appliances. The questions that come to mind have to do with - whether this same store delivered and 'installed' the washer the first time? They wouldn't carry it 15 feet, but I presume that to be the 'last' 15 feet. How many feet did they carry it from the truck to your residence, or was that on a dolly of some sort? Is there another reason given for not going the last 15 feet? Like it's upstairs? or downstairs?

I mention those questions because it has alot to do with what to do next. If you've been denied service that the company normally provides, then there's more basis for a complaint.

If they were not obligated to do more than deliver the product and there was either an understanding of that, or it should have been understood, then there's less basis for a complaint. And in that case, you're left with asking Simone Else - perhaps friends or another service provider, to put it in position and install it.

I started to say that I would probable take the road of least resistance.However, even after thinking about a second, I would be pissed. Especially, if the washer, when it was purchased, included installation. I would be back on the phone having who ever approved the replacement to also authorize installation

Perhaps, just having some friends come move it for you makes sense to avoid all the grief. Some may recommend having friends move it and then submit a bill and take that to small claims However, I always balance that with this question

Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy.

As previously suggested, I like the B.B.B. complaint and the news. In my area, Channel 4 has "4 in your corner" you probably have a simular thing in your area.

Just the threat of this bad publicity, should get the "future defendant' (lol) off high center. I would NOT come at them all mad either, just matter of factly. Here is the situation. Here is what I expect from you. Here are the remedies that I have available to me.

And of course, you want the name of the person you talk to and may slide in to the conversation, it may behoove him to help you seek a resoultion because, when this thing blows up publicly, and everyone is running for cover,he is going to be caght in the cross fire with his top managment, who will be looking for someone to blame.

Remind him, you know it isn't his fault and advise him he needs to cover his rear with his supervisor. He may be complacent in carring your message for relief and rectification. However, he will carry his own, and thus yours, up the chain. Obviously, no one will want the problem to reside upon their desk when "@@it hits the fan."

Did you sign for the delivery? If so, you may have accepted a machine that you don't know will work. Is it still in a package?
1. You could start by unpacking the machine, if it's still packed.
Then tie one rope each around the bottom of the two front feet. First, pull one foot around, then the other until you have moved the machine into wash room. Get a wrench. Call the local handyman and have him install the machine, or 2.
2. Call the local handyman and have him move and install the machine.
3. Call a plumber. This will cost more.

does canada have dicrimation laws protecting the disabled?
{i know you are not "disabled"}, but you know what i mean. by the way did they have a wench when they first installed it? even if these were different men, common scents should have told them they'd need a wench. it is the fault of the company that delivered the machine. notify them that you will be taking legal action and give them a # of days to get it done then if no action sue. they may have to pay court costs, pay someone to do the job, and maybe more money because of your worry over the matter. good luck

File a complaint with the state consumer protection agency.

With all the OSHA regulations concerning handicapped people,
aren't there laws offering you some sort of protection from this kind of shoddy treatment?

If the furniture company doesn't make things right, you can always offer them a LOT of bad publicity.

Uncle Sam is right and if that doesnt work try your local TV station they always have a dept that loves to help the citizen and publicize the Company that is trying to rip you off. These creeps just think they can get away with it. Also an email to your states atty. general wouldnt hurt.

They are lazy, plain and simple. Call the company and DEMAND they install the washer. You are the customer and it is not your fault you got a faulty washer and as the customer, they should be doing whatever it takes to keep your business.

Contact the better business Bureau and file a complaint. Also try calling the owner and complain this is very wrong.

Call the main office and file a complaint. They were just being lazy. Don't let them get away with it. Good luck.
