Just using simple, straightforward numbers then it's a Sean says but if you introduce a minus sign then the smallest 5 digit number is -99999.
If you start bringing powers into it then 9 to the power 9 to the power 9 is the largest and 9 to the minus 9 to the minus 9 to the minus 9 to the minus 9 is the smallest.
And if you want to chuck in a mathematical operator then 999 to infinity and 99999 to minus infinity are the largest and smallest.

this is mainly in repsonse to trevors answer. Make sure if u use NEGATIVE 9 to the negative nine to the negative nine to the negative nine to the negative nine. Not positive. If it was positive, you would have an extremely large number.
