The earth condensed from a swirling cloud of elements and molecules. It is 4.6 billion years old.

We know this because:

1) dating meteorites. When we find a meteorite from this solar system that has a similar composition to earth, you get many young ages, but the oldest and most common date to 4.6 Ga (billion years).

2) isotope trends. When you look at certain radiogenic isotope ratios that change with time, like Rb/Sr or U/Pb, you find that many rocks with differnt ratios of many ages form a line, and the line traces back to an origin of 4.6 Ga as well.

The oldest life is 3 1/2 Ga, the oldest rock is about 4 Ga, and the oldest date ever found is on the highly durable mineral Zircon from Australia, it's date is 4.2 Ga. So, there is no direct method, it is based on inferences. However, many different inferences lead to the same number 4.559 Ga (to be specific).

You would have to throw out everything we know and love about Geology to accept a young earth view. When you look at the Grand Canyon, how can you say that only took 6000 years to form?

Look, ID is a nice story, but it is not science. Science is based on evidence and data. Creationism/ID or any belief in a higher power is based on FAITH only.

Let me turn your question around, if 'God created the earth' was correct and science could definitively prove Creationism (and thus the existence of God), why would they not? That would be the greatest scientific discovery in the history of the world. No one would pass that up to maintain the 'status quo'. There is no conspiracy to hide creation evidence. All the evidence points to evolution of the solar system by condensing gas and rock. Anyone who knows real scientists knows they are glory-mongers first. They love to prove others wrong to enhance their own standing. And if any scientist could prove Creation/God, it would've been done a long time ago.

An interesting proof that a being created the earth is the Intelligent Design proof:

There is the famous story of the guy who went to a wise man to ask him - how do we know a creator made the earth and all that is in it. The wise man said bring me a carpet and I will show you. The guy came back with a carpet and the wise man said "it is amazing how this carpet just fell together in such great patterns like that!" The guy said I thought you were wise - everyone knows that the weaver made this carpet, you can tell by the intelligent design. Ahh said the wise man listen to what you are saying. Look around at the earth the incredible detail and obvious design and it proves a creator.

There are about 13 other proofs, but this is a good start.

The carpet story is all very nice, but if you were to ask "Who created the 'carpet maker '? ", you get the the same stock answer "Duh he as always been there!" Where is the logic in that?
Well I think we can forget the "created in 6 days " nonesense for a start. You have got to bear in mind that when the bible was written there were no telescopes or microscopes to see the bigger picture. When you fell ill with the plague it was "Gods will" not bacteria , nobody knew any different. There are literally billions of stars out there. No one knew what a 'star 'was really was . When Galileo discovered that the earth was not at the centre of galaxy, let alone the universe the ( very scared to know the truth and have it leaked out? ) Catholic church nearly had him put to death for saying so. Even in the 18th century it was realised by early geologists that the earth itself must be millions of years old . ( up to then people believed that fossils were things like thunderbolts, petrified snakes, devils toenails it seems laughable now but that is what they believed! ). So a little point to ponder. "God created man in his own image" So why wait all those millions of years to do so?

God is merely no longer interior the category of "issues that were created". the 2d regulation of Thermodynamics proves that what all of us understand because the universe has no longer continually existed. If it change into eternal, then it will be in a state of entropy, because it really is dropping sensible ability. There are in worry-free words 4 plausible causes for the life of the universe. a million) It emerged spontaneously out of no longer something (won't be able to be authentic, from no longer something, no longer something comes) 2) that's an phantasm in our minds and we in worry-free words imagine that's there (the actual undeniable reality that issues should be appropriately measured and envisioned shows that that's no longer an phantasm) 3) It must have continually been there (no, 2d regulation of TD signifies that it wasn't continually the following) 4) someone or something outdoors the universe exercised a stress more beneficial than the universe at its optimal second, and presented it into life in case your cousin has an option, enable's listen it. If from no longer something, no longer something comes, then God (a author) had to be there interior the start. If there change into no longer something interior the start, then no longer something would have EVER been created.

As a geologist, I would have to say that I learned in a very compelling way that the earth was almost certainly created by the accumulation of dust, gas, particles, meteorites, etc. that accumulated into a rotating sphere over 4 billion years ago. They accumualted through gravity and since God is not gravity I would have to say no, though I do still believe in God, I just don't think Earth was His particular creation.

You know... dust, gas, particles floating around outer space to form a ball of gas called Earth. And then thats how Earth became. But thank Mother Nature, for bringing plants to this weir planet, and thank God himself for creating living creatures on this planet that was just formed originally as a big ball of gas!

most people will say that it depends on what you believe yourself

big bang theory or divine creation

if you believe in the big bang theory not fact as it is a theory you believe that the earth was created in the universe by accumulation of matter. or if you believe that there is a higher being that created everything, i don't see why there couldn't have been a "god" that created the big bang or a like probability.

either way you are putting faith into two things that haven't been proven both are theories
