9 out of 10 teams let the starting pitchers choose what uniform they will wear
however, on the road, the starter has proably 2 uni's to pick from and at home he has a different 2 to pick from.
also, i believe they are required to wear certain uniforms on certain days for example, throwback days or promo's like the white sox wear green uniforms on the "half-way to st.patricks's day" game so yeah.

Most Teams usually wear the jersey with their team name at home, and on the road the name of the city is on the jersey. The color probably depends on the day they play, there are different colors for the weekend games, and games during the week. But teams usually decide which jersey to wear.

They have a HOME and AWAY uniform. On special nights sometimes they will wear historical ones that were used decades before. Some players can also wear ones from the World Baseball Classic or All Star Game during certain games. They also have alternative uniforms, a good example is the Marlin's always use their black uniforms at Citizen's Bank Park....no one knows why, they just do!

as mentioned, many teams allow the starting pitcher to choose what jersey the team will wear for a given game and in some cases its entirely up to the teams equipment manager.

The Twins let the starting pitcher pick when they are at home. I think that is pretty common.
I hate it when both teams end up wearing similar stuff even though they have lots of choices! Like one team in all white and the other in all light gray and they both have blue hate. Happens all the time!

The alternate jerseys are usually for on the weekend. However, they will also let the pitcher pick as well.

The selection method varies from team to team. I know that the Rockies allow the starting pitcher to pick which uniform they'll wear.

traditionally, light or white jerseys are for the home team, and the darker jerseys are for the away team.
