I've been teaching special ed. for 25 years. My goal is to attempt to make it 6 more years until I can take full retirement and then work part time in a book store or a pet shop. I say "attempt" because teaching special ed. the last few years has become a nightmare dealing with Bush's "No Child Left Behind" act and parents who can't accept their child's disability. I have one parent right now who is trying to sue our school because she can't accept her son's diagnosis of mental retardation. She is going to the school board over ever assignment I give him that is at his level of 2nd grade because I'm not teaching him the regular curriculum of his 9th grade peers... *sigh*.. sorry for the tirade, but my goals used to be to teach the best I can and now I'm just treading water trying to survive.
