I have tried running a scan for spyware, and nothing came up. I tried running a virus check, nothing came up. I cleared my cookies, my temp internet files, and history, still nothing. Tried installing an old version of messenger and it also didn't work. Any other suggestions?

You should check if there is enough empty space left on your hard drive. If the C partition is full or has very little space left on it, then there is less space for the computer to use hard disk space temperorily as virtual memory. If you have another partiton on your hard disk, and there is empty space on it. You can increase the space allocated to virtual memory on it. It might help to speed up the programs. Also keeping many programs running at once also slows down them all.

If you have a licensed copy of winXP, then you can download "windows defender" which has a software explorer in it. Which allows to take a look at all kind of programs that start at startup, are currently runnning, and disable, or remove them. And it is reversible. It also tells you which company owns the software etc etc.

It's your RAM and your Cache that you need to pay attention to. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the processes tab. Look for any processes you know you can stop such as msmsgs.exe (MS Messenger), java.exe, realsched.exe, ipodservice.exe, ituneshelper.exe, and any update services. Look for anything that takes up more than 3,000 K of memory. I would look each item up before you end a process, because some of them are for your virus program, like CCAPP.exe for Norton. If you can end any of them by simply exiting out of them from the SysTray(on the right hand side of your toolbar if you're running windows) then by all means, do so. But Yahoo! Messenger takes up alot of RAM. That's the problem.

To look them up, just type the program name and extension exactly as they appear(CAPS and everything) into the Yahoo or Google search bar. Clink on the first link that comes up that says something about Process information.

well it probably doesn't drain your computer of its space but it probably slows down all the other processes probably because its telling you that you should start using a real chat program like MSN messenger.
