Everyone born in the states has a social security number. Check with the social security office with your card and they can tell you.

If you don't know and there is nobody you can ask, then you need to go state by state. You can start with the state you went to elemetary school in, or any state that you remember living in as a child.
As the previous poster mentioned, you can also check based on the the state where your social security number was issued. The first three digits of the SSN identify the state office where the number was requested. That's also a good place to start.

I don't believe there is a central U.S. registry for birth certificates. I believe you would have to go with your best guess, work from there, and possibly end up having records searched in all 50 states and 5 territories. Gulp.
If you were adopted, you might want to hire a private detective.

You can't
Unless you want to send a request to all the states and territories, you should figure out which state.
