I bought the truck and it was making a rattle noise around the clutch area. Well now it has new gears in the trans, a complete new engine and a new clutch and bearing. It still making all kinds of noise! It only rattles when the truck is running in neutral with the clutch out. The noise stops when you push the clutch in or when your driving in gear. Truck has an 8.3 cummins with a 9 speed Eaton Fuller transmission. If anyone has heard of this please let me know.

sounds to me like the throwout bearing is running all the time.the throwout bearing should only run when you apply the clutch.try adjusting the clutch so the bearing is free when its idling and the clutch is out.

Probably the throw out bearing but could also be the clutch brake. You having to grind it into gear at a stop? Either way you need to get it fixed or spend way more later. Also some throw bearings have a grease zerk, give a couple of pumps with a grease gun, remember not to get carried away a little is a lot better than too much.

My husband's 07 Kenworth does the same thing. He thinks it's the throw out bearing or the clutch fork. It's just an irritating noise that don't go away! I work for a large Freightliner dealer in warranty. When was the work performed and where?

You should have gotten an Allison transmission...but since we deal with what we are given, I would suggest looking into the clutch lever or the throwout bearing. Truly sounds like the throw-out bearing. The shop you took it to should have had the common sense to put a new one in, but the new generation of mechanics seem to have lost the knack of actually FIXING things. They just pluck **** out, buy new ****, and throw it back together without paying any attention to detail. I wish you the very best of luck and I am sorry for your troubles. If you're in K.C. you may be able to take it down to the Freightliner (or maybe it's ford) dealer next to Worlds of Fun off of I-435 and have my uncle Clyde fix it for you. Make sure you ask for him by name to make sure you're at the right place. He's been doing this for about 40 yrs. He'll take care of it for sure. Good luck.
