I am 42 yrs old. We go to parties and I dont know how to say what we are. Last month a guy asked him if we were married and he said "yes". No way! I want to continue to be available and if he tells people we are married, everyone will think Im married.
I would like to introduce him, but not sure how to say it. I am too old to be calling him a boyfriend. I would like to correct him.
I am not trying to over inflate myself. I just want to be fair and not pretend to be married. What would you say?

We do not live together. He lives 1 block away from me. He and I are monogomous sex partners. He makes a good living, and so do I. I own my own home and get child support. He makes house payments and child support payments. He is a very nice person, I am happy to be in a relationship with him, but there are things in his home life that drive me crazy and I am happy to be where I am now. It took a long time to figure it all out. He is a serious alcoholic.

I was physically abused in a bad marriage and realize there are things better than getting stuck in a misreable relationship and paying all of the bills. For now, this is working and I am satisfied. He is good to me.

introduce him as a "friend" however if he doesn't like it you better have a chat with him, if he answers "yes" when someone asks if you're married. It sounds to me as if the two of you are not on the same page, and it also sounds to me like you're using him. although he can't be very smart if he has let this confusion go on for 4 years. It seems like he is your 2nd, or 3rd choice. Be fair and tell him you don't think the two of you will every marry, of course, you might be afraid to do that because that would mean you might not have a date on a Friday night. You have a choice, either let him go find someone who he can marry or continue to be a deceitful self-centered person who always has a date.

Will he be super offended if you just introduced him as a friend? If so, then just introduce him by his name. That way, no feelings get hurt and it leaves people guessing. Which makes you more mysterious to any other guy that may be interested. If all else fails, you can introduce him as your boy toy! But seriously, tell hime that you are kinda big on titles and you don't like to pretend to be something that you are not. Therefore, him telling people that the two of you are married makes you very uncomfortable. He should respect that.

why are you "too old" to call him a boyfriend. That is what he is, obvoiusly. Do you live together? the only other thing is "this is the guy i'm dating" but that sounds really lame, especially after FOUR YEARS! and does he know you plan to NOT marry him? Obviously not, and that is something you should discuss with him. Don't be silly about the age, call him your boyfriend. do you love him! geez.

You have been dating him for 4 years and yet you want to stay open and have no plans on getting married?? Why the heck are you even with him?? Let the guy go so someone who is going to want to marry and love him and respect him can meet him.

I would introduce him as my friend or my gentleman friend. Then, if anyone asks, just say,"we're just good friends, nothing serious" or we've been friends a long time, but nothing serious.

significant other is too politically correct, friend is too casual. why not stick with the most descriptive because you're not too old to have a boyfriend.

introduce him as your friend or as your boyfriend ... but you should talk to him to make sure that he knows where this relationship is and that you want to keep your option open.

I don't see any problem referring to him as your boyfriend. Apparently, you're uncomfortable with it. Maybe you can introduce him as "my love slave".
