Suppose (tsub1) is the initial term of a genaral arithmetic sequence for which you add d term of the sequence to get the next term of the sequence.

A. Write the first five terms of this sequence and then find recursive and function formulas for the sequence.

B.Suppose an arithmetic sequence ( tsub1, T sub2, T sub 3......... begins with T sub 0=84 and has a common difference of -6. Find functions and recursive formulas for his sequence and then find the term Tsub87.

Ok, let's see:

First case, tsub1 is the initial condition for the sequence
tsub2 = tsub1 + d
tsub3= tsub2+ d = tsub1 + 2d
tsub4 = tsub3 + d = tsub1 + 3d
tsub5 = tsub4 + 4 = tsub1 + 4d

the recursive expression is given as,

tsub(n) = tsub1 + (n-1)*d

B. tsub1 = 0.84
d= -6

use the above formulas,
tsub1 = 0.84
tsub2= tsub1+ d = 0.84-6 = -5.16
tsub3 = tsub2 + d = tsub1 + 2d = 0.84-12 = -11.16

tsub87 = tsub1 + (87-1)*d = 0.84 - 86(6) = -515.16

Simple once you understand the principles. Good luck!
