. . . is not the point? Why do Reps and Dems hurl insults and denegrade each other? Why is this site covered with mean close-minded generalizations on both sides? Wasn't the 2 party system created so that 2 sides would be represented? Aren't the images of hate mongering Reps and flip flopping Dems partly tactics of politicians to gain votes and to rile up the other side?
Don't we have enough dissention outside of our borders to be encouraging and reveling in it inside of our borders? Aren't the issues more complex than, "If you didn't want war, then you're worse than a terrorist" or "If you do want war, you're an idiotic aggressor"?

thanks so far. . . i'm not saying that the president's intelligence is never a point worthy of discussion, just that making fun of each other because we believe he is or isn't can't be the best way to find answers?

who said i don't have a "side"? (in the larger picture, aren't we all on the same "side" as we want what is best for America?) assuming that i am going to "throw my vote away" in scathing tones is not going to automatically make me believe what you believe. i have strong convictions; i also believe that other people with strong convictions have the right to express them without being attacked or insulted.
chris s--thanks for the amendment in info--is it true that the founding fathers were leery of giving power to the masses because of mob mentality and petty fighting (like stuff that's going on today?)

I agree with you. I, for one have never said Bush is stupid (he does appear to have some kind of disorder when it comes to speaking when he's not reading from a script) I hope I have always given reasons why I think Bush's policies, tactics, and ideas are wrong and not just called him stupid............
Unfortunately, your point will fly over the heads of quite a few people on both sides here And a ditto for Walter Ridgely!

It's because everyone wants to be right. And if everyone has different needs and/or wants from the government, what's right for one person may not be right for you. If you try to tell them why you think you are right, there is an automatic shield that goes up in their mind and they get defensive.
And this site is a horrible place to find a good answer about something political. You have some people who know what they are talking about and try to give the facts and their interpretation and you have the "robots" who go around regurgitating what they hear from their parents or on the news. This just makes more of those shields.

I think some issues are issues that divide this country deeply! Some have a little more trouble expressing themselves than others!
I guess my issue is that many don't have the ability to think or reason and then start using epithets when they have no argument! I can do both when required, though I try very hard not to!! Sometimes it is just too easy and usually warranted!
Whether Bush is stupid is exactly the point! This man has his finger on the button!
I guess we could just close this down and all go home!

Dubya is going to stick to his guns even if it bankrupts the country. (which is a part of Al Quedas PLAN).
He said Iraq was directly involved in 911.
They were not.
He said Iraq had WMD's.
This information based on infomation provided by Iraqi National Congress head ...CHALABI .
Wanted for massive bank fraud in JORDAN...CHALABI.
Wouldn't trust him running the cash register at the 7-11 CHALABI.
No WMDS.
Then it was Iraqi freedom.
I didn't get chills down my spine when the news showed people pulling down statue of SADDAM.
While the news crowed about the event as if it was the liberation of Paris in WW2 all over again.
It's just a damn photo op.
And once in Iraq we let the looters go simply wild and dismantle the country.
THAT WAS REAL SMART.
And then it was IRAQI DEMOCRACY...
I don't give a fat rats *** if Iraq has a democracy or a dictatorship.
We are supposed to be after AL QUEDA.
NOT POLISHING OFF ONE OF BIN LADENS enemies
SADDAM HUSSEIN. While letting Pakistan grant amnesty to AL QUEDA in PAKISTAN on the one hand. And telling us that if they capture bin Laden(lwhich they won't) they will not grant him amnesty.
And we are calling Pakistan some kind of ally?
We ain't gonna chase AL QUEDA to the ends of the earth.
We are too busy installing our hand picked leaders...who...when U.S troops finally pull out....will be skinned alive.
So we might as well take them with us when we leave and let them get back to the restaurant in NYC and bank fraud where ever they can find it.And Dubya is still sticking to his lie.
Isn't it stupid when somebody lies and when evidence is presented to him that refutes his lie...he still sticks by his lie?
What would you call an average person on the street that did that?
A bit off their rails?

I agree. Lots of people on both sides are SO bitter about everything. They act like you shot someone if you don't agree with them 100%. It's sad really. What is more sad that these people believe that our government really cares about them. We as the public should rally together and make our own difference in this country. Our government is only looking out to put money in their own pockets. We can't count on them to help us. We need to help ourselves and each other. But the people high up in this country keep us all fighting with each other so they can run off with billions and billions of dollars. They have us fighting about liberal, conservative, religion, race, rich, poor, and every other minor thing. We need to WAKE UP.

Sure, we can and sometimes do have intelligent debate here, but where's the fun in that? lol
Incidentally, the Founders didn't want a two-party system. Washington warned against the folly of political parties in his Farewell Address in 1797.

it doesnt matter!!! war is always money. Money is the big key in this war. Were Fighting a war with oursleves. The US gov is a money making machine what happens when the money making machine goes to war more money for the good side more money for the good side. More ppl with money invest in war to try to make more money its all money for us the USA but only for the investers. what happens if the "good" side loses lots of money is lost. lost money is money well spent in my opinion cuz i dont pay my taxes hahahahahahaha stupid american that pay taxes all your money is going to waste.
Now if the bad side wins nothing happens beacuse dirty money is tianted only dirty ppl will do busy with dirty money
As american we are pretty dirty cuz all we want is money no matter how it comes in.
our stars our blind but our bars will never be broken because america will never be poor,

No one wants a war but there comes a time when we must not let killers come to America and murder our people like on 9-11 all the people that died in the towers and in the pentagon and on the planes we all pray for.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a divider, let's look at the record.
The Republicans are the dirty tricksters extraordinaire:
1) Bush has lied repeatedly about his own record and past
2) Bush has lied about his opponents (hence "swift-boating" now a verb meaning to make up **** and smear it around on one's opponent)
3) Bush's Daddy hired Lee Atwater of Willy Horton fame. (BTW, Atwater famously recanted his campaign misdeeds on his deathbed)

"...tactics of politicians to gain votes and to rile up the other side?"
I think that generally the pols intend to rile up their own base with the low-rent invective they so cheerfully throw about.
What you're really arguing for is informed and respectful debate and, unfortunately, this "forum" is probably the last place you'll find it.
