I think blue is just fine. The contrast really pops the color out of goldfish. As for a better color, that is totally up to you. I am partial to natural looking gravel. Right now I'm actually using white sand. As long as you like it that is all that matters! Try looking at aquarium websites for setups that you like! Some of them are just amazing!

in case you like an extremely organic and fashionable tank i say get white gravel, then placed all your decorations on the gravel then and on good of what you have left for open area, place black stones over the gravel cause them to look organic stack them unfold them in spite of, then upload tall vegetation on the back, and smaller vegetation in front, it supplies it an staggering look, possibly for a backing of the aquarium placed black, use a rubbish bag cut back it to the appropriate length of the tank and tape it to the back, it may look great very organic, or in case you like use regularly occurring pebbles the brown, tan and dark brown ones, the black gravel seems extremely great too, and do each little thing i advised you yet no longer use the rocks.

Blue is the perfect color for a goldfish, because it is opposite on the color wheel. I used orange for my blue betta and it looked great!
If you're sick of the shade, you could try another shade of blue, like aqua or baby blue.

Really it's just a matter of your own personal preference. Blue looks nice with Orange fish, but so does black.
