In the middle east, anything is possible.
Although the deaths of three attackers and one defender make it seem rather real.
At any rate, Syria knew that to allow attackers into the Embassy would reflect badly on them so if it was a true terror attack, you can bet the Syrian soldiers defending the embassy knew their butts were on the line. Better to risk your life defending the embassy at all cost than to allow the terrorists in and face humiliation and a firing squad.
They made a good showing anyway no matter how it was planned. And you can bet the Marines inside were absolutely ready to defend at all costs.
It is possible the attackers didn't think the Syrian guards would defend so efficiently. They probably were told by their mullahs the Syrian soldiers would welcome them. That is about what kind of brainwashing you could expect from terrorist leaders. The communists taught the Viet Cong the same thing for the Tet offensive in 1968 Vietnam. The dummies actually thought the "people" of south Vietnam wanted an oppressive communist government. Talk about delusional!!!!
Stay tuned for further developements. After all, it IS the middle-east.

Syria is a country governed by sensible people. Only enemies of Syria can think of attacking of USA embassy. Moreover American intelligence is always there to judge themselves about the situation.
To understand Middle East issue one should have the courage to place themselves in their position and do justice.
USA is playing a very important role for peace in Middle East. It is receiving supports from all nations. This help is vital.

Maybe the Syrian govt will hand over the only survivor IF he survives the official questioning?
LOL Very convenient for both governments really Syrians look good and USA gets another excuse to continue the 'war on terror'. Well gee whizz it seems to be a win win situation all round, every one shook hands and patted each other on the back for a job well done..
Maybe next Syria will denounce the USA so they don't have to hand over prisoner .......... then they can wait for the dust to settle and see how many points they went up on the opinion polls.

...but is it likely?
Syria has not given a darn what the US thinks or how the US views them - what makes you think they would start now?
As long as the US supports Israel (and I believe we should) we will be at odds with Syria....
So is it possible - sure
Yet.... don't most people, groups, organizations, even governments go a bit overboard when they want to "impress" others. This was far to small to be a "government" plan.

Its doubtful. I don't believe they care much about their image at this point. Besides that train of thought sounds almost as preposterous as the U.S. having planned the WTC attacks so that they could ultimately have an excuse to invade Iraq. i mean there are all kinds of conspiracy theories I imagine,
And how could they mask secret supply lines to Hamas? It is apparently no secret that they have done so in the past. They didn't just "plan" this attack to mask still another load of supplies to Hamas.
Besides, Hamas, Hezbollah, Israel, they have a plethora of weapons. They've had them for a long long time...None of them needed this attack.

I think the attack may have been planned by Al-qaeda, or maybe it was planned by the Bush gov't to make it look as if they need to fight the war on terror a bit longer
