Snails. They do the work for you. Ever few days, all you need to do is put a few goldfish pellets.
You cant buy snails at an aquirmum store, but you can buy aquatic plants that always seem to have a few snails on them, just a small warning.....the snails multiply faster than rabbits, expect alot of them. OR just buy a big gold fish to put in there to eat most of the snails, the snails and goldfish and plants would look awesome in your fishbowlshaped candel holder.
If it is not big enough for all of that, I would say just change the water often, I dont know what kind of finish the bowl has, I would not want to ruin it by using chlorine to keep the water clean.

Clorinate it; the clorine will prevent algae. If you ahve animals which use the water as a drinking dish, this may not be a good idea. Your local pool suppy store can provide the liquid clorine and stabilized which will help the cloinine from being evapoeated by the sun.

I have two thoughts, 1 keep the water out of the sun
2, add hydrogen peroxide to the clean water , it does not hurt plants and will help cut down on algae

Try one of the chlorine additives for pools. It shouldn't take more than a teaspoon at the most .
