"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity." Do you agree with Albert Einstein's statement?

yes in some ways.

you see, the key is he says "it seems." It is relative. The actual time might have been an hour but it "felt" shorter. One definition of relativity is "Existence dependent solely on relation to a thinking mind." Another is "The quality or state of being connected or related."

For example (besides the ones he gave which were very good), It is like when you sleep. It "seems" like it has been shorter than if you were to sit in one spot for 8 hours straight. It's relative based on how you were thinking, in this case, you were thinking in the subconscious realm.

So yes, i agree with him. People have believed in relativity for a long time (hence the old statement, "Time flies when your having fun.") There are other things of relativity besides time, but I won't adress those.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like the pain will continue for hours, Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute within which both of u will be burnt to ashes. See I completed the statement!

Yes.
Time slows when bored, and speeds up when excited.
Like Mr. Einstein stated.
(I have been bored beyond tears while at sea, in the Navy. And when finally in port somewhere - blinked - and we were back at sea!)

Also for a great example of this - find Star Trak Next Gen, Data is observing water boil, because of this very statement, it is a very well written part of the show.)

Absolutely. Perceived time is a very real phenomenon. I see it every day in class. And feel it, usually in a good way. It's all relative and life's too short for a lot of long days. Find something that you love with which you can make a living. That's the key.

Well yeah!
When you are doing something that is unpleasant or not enjoyable it feels like it takes for ever to get it over with. The time just drags....
When you are doing something you enjoy or something pleasurable, in Einstein's case sitting with a pretty girl, time seems to just fly by.
It makes complete sense.

In a way, yes but remember, even the theory of relativity is in jeopardy by the new and unknown dark matter and dark energy universe, and the laws of physics, once these theories are proved, will change dramatically. Let's just wait.

There are other things that he didn't consider. Hot and pretty are relative terms. Some hot stoves are much more preferable to some pretty girls.

Yes, the same as the phrase, " Time flies when you are having fun". I know you have been to the movies, a good movie is over before you know it and a bad movie seems to last forever. Having a great time, you never want it to end, having a bad time, can't wait for it to be over. smile :-)

Of course. I agree with just about everything Albert Einsten said.

Yes. He is saying that the passage of time as noted by an observer is dependent upon the observer's frame of reference. That is relativity.
