Can't they just accept them for who they are? Sounds like to me, women like that don't want a friendship with shy guys anyway.

It really all depends on the given situation. Sometimes a woman will take a talkative man as a threat...sometimes they'll take the shy guy as a threat....it really depends on the woman, what she thinks the man's intentions are, etc. If a man is happily married or not interested, he'll probably act different than a man who is single.......and women know this.

Some women don't want to be with a guy who's not willing to "be the guy." Some women like the guy to take charge and be dominant and strong.

It's a very cute personality trait though I'd appreciate if the guy in question should come out of his "shell" a little bit more but not losing his personality in any way.

Men are generally expected to take the initiative & approach women. Women are by nature shy & men are generally bold.
If men choose to be shy against their nature, women will have to take the men's role & take the initiative. Most women hate this reversal of roles.
That's why women don't respect men who are shy.

Then shy guys shouldn't try to be friends with that type of women either.
As I said a couple minutes ago, I like shy guys, it's an adorable quality imo.
