I bought a cheap brand of black eye shadow and it was very transparent. It did not give me the smoky look I desired. Generally I wear very sheer colors so I have no clue what brand would be the best for opaque, black shadow. Thanks!

Look for a cream based eye shadow- sold in pots or large crayon sticks.

Draw the area in totally black and then use a clean sponge applicator or Qtip to lighten only where you want the lighter smoky effect.

Cremes also last much longer.

If you can't find any creme based product you can get nearly the same affect by using a sponge applicator and getting it damp then applying the color powder wet. It takes a few tries to get the look right since wet has different properties and you need to wait between colors. Wet application gives deeper more vibrant results even from weak powders.

M.A.C is a very good brand. You can try the "Shadow Paint" in Graphite. Go to a MAC store or counter at a Dept. Store and you can even try it out before buying it. That way you'll see if that's what you want. If not, they'll probably be able to help you out. Good luck!

i think of you should swap you're makeup around. smokey shadow and yellow liner for the decrease lash purely. and black liquid liner to "fake" backside eyelashes. (for a mod-ish look)

Stay away from the cheap stuff.. If you want full, theatrical, dramatic, and exciting go for a higher quality product.

MAC
or
NARS

Should give you great results.
