And if so, how does this affect your pedagogy? Do you find yourself trying to be more inclusive in terms of how you talk about family and community? Or do you just ignore it and leave it unacknowledged?

My sons have best friends who have 2 dads and I also have 2 students who have same sex parents.

I make it a point to say "parents" and not mom or dad. It is also important to remember that some kids do not even have parents. They may be foster kids or even orphans. So along with parents I also add the word "guardian" and sometimes I will say "ask the adult at home."

When we talk about community and family (I teach Spanish and we always do a family tree) I make sure to say that families are diverse and I include extra words for family members.

I think that sometimes kids feel a little bit out of place when their friends are talking and they do not have a mom in the house because they have 2 dads or vice versa. They can blend in though, because a lot of kids come from single parent homes and they do not have to reveal their situation to the whole class if they do not want to. I feel that by mentioning and being accepting of it then they know that they do not have to be uncomfortable around me.

I grew up not talkin about it and my kids havent mentioned or questioned yet !They do see gays together but sterotype it and say their gay ,but its hard to stop them when they do have a right to how they feel as well as gays have their right to do and say as they feel .So I dont say stay away or you should do this or that because Im not going to do that with any of my children they can make there own choices .I do correct them if they make fun of people or stare ,but dont about the issue of being gay .I didnt agree with 2 gays raising a child but as long a they are loved and taken care of thats all that matters.Im not to judge whats right or wrong rather I agree or not.I love Ellen .Elton John,Queen and all the people Ive met that our gay so it shouldnt change my mind what their personal life is ,Its just the way I grew up ,It was not normal.

it is your job as a professional teacher to ignore it and teach reading writing and arithmatic, that is what education is about, to learn literacy, math and science, - -
it is none of our business as educators to get involved into peoples personal lives, just teach the basics !
I am a teacher also, I teach apprentices the construction trade and I do not ask their personal business, they have to be sober, on time, dressed for work, if they violate any of that they get fired, doesn't matter at all about their personal life and I don't care about peoples personal lives because it is none of my business
