*Geez it took forever for this to load* Thanks for all the great answers everyone, I am convinced it is my connection that is slowing me down, I am zipping all over the other stuff.....I guess I will have to quit being a tight wad and fork over the extra $$$ for something faster.

If you say your internet is slow, keep in mind that your computer will only go as fast as your phone line (SLOW!!!!). If your not on line, does it run fast? It should boot pretty quick. Also, if you have Norton running, it can really slow your computer down.

Hey. If just your Internet is slow, but the rest of the computer is faster than I would say that it is your Internet connection for sure. However if they are both slow then I would suggest downloading a program called Advanced WindowsCare 1.8. This is a free program that was designed for and made by Windows. This program will once ran, will find, fix, repair, and optimize any problems that are in the system. No new computer is perfectly setup. I ran it on my brand new out of the box laptop and it found 47 things to be fixed. I highly suggest this program. It was recommended to me buy the IT guy from a major international electronics corporation that I work for. The link at the bottom is will take you to the download link. The website is Download.com which is an affiliate of Cnet. I hope this helps.

Did you download Kazaa? Unless you downloaded the full version all you did was open a virus portal. Of course dial up is the most likely problem. Slow is relative. I cannot see running dial up on a new computer.

OK same thing happend to me first do this in steps

1.Look at your memory yes look at the amount of memory in your computer about 512 to 1.5 should be sufficient i have 1.2 gb of ram and its fast. Go to the my computer icon right-click and select properties and see your memory amount. if you have 512 you should upgrade to 1gb if your warranty allows you to open you computer open it if not ask for an upgrade.

2.Check something that people don't realize if you have enough memory for your programs disable virtual memory(virutal mem is just windows creating a page file to allowing using the hard drive probable 4 gb as memory the downside is the computer is really slow.

3.To disable virtual memory go to Start, Right Click My computer,
Properties,Advanced,Performance,Click on settings ,advanced, later virtual memory, click on No Paging File you just disabled virtual memory click ok i think youll probably have to restart your computer.

4.If you have enough memory your computer gets a big boost of speed, if not go back and start back up virtual memory.

5.Go to Start, Control Panel, Look at your left to the screen and click switch to classic view , later click on add/remove programs, remember your computer comes with programs you probably wont use and takes space. So delete programs, later restart the computer.

6.Go to start , run , and type in msconfig , then the startup tab , later it mentions programs that startup now be careful i recommend having an expert at this trough a the list of programs that you can remove.(i will email you and i will email me back)

7.Later go to Start, Accesories, System Toold, Disk Defrag , and defrag you hard drive.

8.Restart you computer

9.Contrary what they say dial up is fast not as fast as cable but it gets the job done.Im writing this response on dial up and my speed is 50kbps per seconds which is good all what people say on the other response is that dial up is slow when loading webpages and downloading programs beside that it dosen't have to do anything with the computer.

10.Run antivirus,if you need free antivirus go to www.avast.com it's really good , update it, later get a good firewall go to www.zonelabs.com and get the free version of the zonealarm firewall its 100 times better than the windows firewall and go to google and get adaware directly from lavasoft, later spybot search and destroy from www.safer-networking.org its a great free anti spyware.

11.this is it youre done your computer should run clean as a whistle from here on oh and by the way you should do this every now and then.

Yes, if you internet connection is what you are refering to, the modem controls the speed, not the computer. If other things are slow as well, you may have a lot of junk on the machine that manufacturers put on there to sell you stuff.

Your internet use is only as fast as your ifconnection, if you got a new computer. Since you invested in a new computer, it is now time to invest in a fast connection.

If you mean all-over performance, no idea, maybe try uninstalling and deleting some things, maybe defrag? If you're talking about internet connection, then the dial-up probably is what's causing the problem.
