Very normal - I'm a career counsellor and some days I still don't know what I want to do with my life!!!! I think the idea that we need to know exactly what we want to do is the problem - that's a lot of pressure to be able to know what you will do "forever". Rather, you need to focus on what you like today, and see where that takes you. Yes, it's all good to have plans, but if a direction is not clear, then you should explore with what you like and also some new things. Live life!!! Don't get bogged down by what other people feel you should do or if they think you need to have it all figured out - it's really unrealistic in my mind. However, there are those, who from a young age, did always know what they wanted. Well, they are the minority!!!

Yes, it is. Is this about you or someone else?

Doing volunteer work and research about various careers that you or the other person is interested in will be very helpful.

By the way -- people change careers due to companies downsizing, change in family dynamics, etc. So figure out what you or the other person is passionate about and see if you or the other person can accept/meet the financial limitations, qualifications, etc. Do some research and talk with people in the careers you or the other person are interested in.

Education (degrees) are almost always required for a career; otherwise, you only end up with a job.

ahhhh you might jump from job to job for a while till you find something you like to do, the problem with that is, you never climb the ladder of success with any company, nor do you ever get to the point of having a decent salary. The good part is, you learn something in different areas, looking at the moment though, if you have any thoughts of the Spirit of God, you might pray about it and hope God will open the door to opportunity.

Yes!! I know people that changed majors in college 5 or 6 times before they graduated... and those were the ones that did it in only 4 years!!!... many people take a couple more years and change majors 2 or 3 times more.

Normal. Even when you are 40 you might still have no idea what you want to do for a career. Most people do what they do because they need to survive and work on to support themself and their family. Better believe it.

I think it very normal.

I never knew how anybody knows what they want to do for the next 45 years of their lives.

There are so many people that get their college degrees and then decide they really don't like that field.

Take your time and you'll be fine.

Yeah of course it is normal, but word of warning:Don't spend to much time trying to decide. If you where 5 and you said I want to be this someday and truly wanted to be "that",then that is what you'd go for. If you where absolutely certain of what you wanted.
