I was, I'm about 100 miles north of N.O. but electricity went out for 2 weeks. Then Rita hit and electricity went out for 10 more days! We got food and water from the Red Cross. This year if a hurricane comes this way I'm taking off! So far so good.

I live in Salina Ks and work at a truck stop, so no Katrina didn't affect me as in physically, but for about 2 weeks we had a couple of hitchhikers camped out , by the interstate onramp holding a sign saying Katrina refuges. They would sit out there and watch tv, they must've had a dvd player or something but they were watching something on a tv. I don't think they were really refuges.

Everyone in the US was affected, many still are, by the refugees that took advantage of the generosity of the American people. Many good people have begun their recovery, but MANY just trashed the free hotel rooms, spent the FEMA money on pleasure, and are STILL useless debris from the storm, commiting crimes in cities all over the country.

We coped by getting together with members from our church and went to Slidell, Louisiana and help Habitat for Humanity with rebuilding houses. It was the most gratifying yet sad week of my life. I would never change that week but I will carry Slidell with me for the remainder of my life.
