If he gets royalties from ASCAP or BMI through the wierd formulas they use, it doesn't come out to much money, and they pay by using a random sample approach so he certainly won't be paid $X every time they use his song, unless for some reason they were willing to make a special arrangement with him. They weren't, so he's suing them. He has almost nothing to lose. If they have a legal right to use the music however they are using it, they may settle just to make the suit go away. I would guess that concerts and CDs are the main income source of most people like Browne, who is a well-established performer. But he could use the publicity these days. Browne considers himself "political" and I assume he doesn't want his colleagues in the music industry to think he supports McCain, as if anyone cares whom he supports. I am voting for McCain and I like him, but I assumed that the song was "Doctor My Eyes" :) Though a more appropriate song for this country might be "Call It a (Subprime) Loan."
