i used to be one of those people...i cut myself to release anger and sadness. I was by no means trying to get attention from doing it either, my cuts were all hidden from the naked eye. When i cut, i didn't feel the knife ripping through the flesh, it actually felt very good and didn't hurt. self harm is almost like an addiction, hard to break. The only way i was broke of it was when i went to the hospital for 4 days. I was not myself, i have a hard time remembering that part of my life except for bits and pieces because my life was so meaningless my brain shut off so i wouldn't go totally insane. The day i went to the hospital my counselor and other counselors were talking to me, but i have no clue what they said. Next thing i new i was crying in a car my counselor was driving and i was in a hospital in another town.

Unfortunately I know someone who suffers from this. It is a mental illness and the person harms themselves as a way of dealing with emotional stress or pain. The deeper the cut the better they feel.

Re-post your question under the psychology category, and ask for information on self mutilation. My daughter went through a period of doing this and I still don't understand it. It was corrected with antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and therapy.

Seriously, click on "Health", then go to "Mental Health" & post your question there.

I am a previous & recent sufferer of this & have found this section useful.

Failing that, if you want to talk to me about this, get on "Answers - P & S (about 10pm AUS EST) any nite & let me know by asking a question.

Good luck.

Some seek attention whilst others try to damage themselves so much that they dont have to go to school and face their troubles, which may include a stressful workload or bullies... you have a son...? what happened to us?
