Considering how often the judiciary has to strike down unconstitutional laws, it should be pretty obvious why governments need checks & balances.

Separation of powers is important to be upheld nowadays because the Executive Department is influencing the Legislative and Judiciary. This happened because the President appointed members of the Supreme Court and his partymates were control the Legislature as a majority party. Thus, the President gets things done by just talking to the appointees and the partymates in the said departments. These departments should be independent and must check each other's activities as provided for in the Constitution.

The main reason behind having those powers separated in the first place was to keep any one branch of the American government from becoming more powerful than the others. If any one branch did succeed in getting to be more powerful, then it might get rid of the other two branches, or make sure they could not re-balance the powers ever again. If one group in the country is far more powerful than anyone else, then the country cannot be a democracy, or even a republic.

In other words, the people who set up this country to operate the way it does, basically did not trust the people who would come later to keep everything balanced and separated. They knew that too much power in the hands of too few people, or one person, would make the country dangerous, unfair, and unjust. This is why they broke away from the original country, in fact. It had become something they found they did not like.

According to the founding fathers, they had to guarantee separation of the power through different branches to maintain the balance. They noted that the Executive Branch in particular always seemed to want wage war, (wow, ya think?) so the Legislative branch needed to control their power. The Judicial Branch was needed to keep the laws from violating the Constitution and Bill of Rights, because they knew politicians sometimes vote for what is popular, not for what is right! I'm not so sure they would agree with the current policy that allows the sitting president to appoint the Judicial (Supreme Court) for life. They appear to answer to no one!

that is to imply we are not ballancing out the power and responsibility between the 4 branches

3 we harp on and We the People who are asleep who are to also keep in check or exercise the Law of Land provisions (US Constitution) if not being followed by those we supposedly democratically elect

if not, all this is a lie and we are in a dictatorship and the rest is pointless, thanks to a 'decider' who overrides with executive orders and constantly challenges US Constitution or those sworn (Citizens and all public officials) to uphold it

The current president is asserting that he can ignore any laws that he does not want to follow, and that his actions are beyond the scope of judicial review. In other words, the executive branch is currently asserting that it is not subject to any checks and balances.

Now is the time we need them more than ever.

because of the threat of curruption, during WWII Franklin Delano Rosevelt and his party had almost complete control of all the branches of government, FDR was a great president and of course did not take advantage of this. however, if the Democratic Party again gains that kind of control a powerhungry politician could pass what ever bill he wants, perform mass trials of political rivals, become enourmously personaly wealthy off government funds, etc.

To put checks and balances on each branch so one doesn't have too much power and is able to take over the government.
