By PAST I mean past failures and bad events you can't shake.
By FUTURE I mean goals that "drive" you. Or maybe big plans.

I believe that the past has the power to control you. The future is an oportunity for you to take advantage of, or not.

The future can't influence you, since it is unknown. Only the past and present have bearing, even if these are ideas about the future.

Thus the past influences most, as it informs all my present and future decisions.

When we are self-unaware psychologically, we are controlled by our conditioning and past experiences. This is the main problem underpinning the 'human condition' and is something we have been urged to overcome by Philosophers, Orators and Prophets for thousands of years.

When we can break free of our past and practise faith for the unforseen future we break free of our condition and are able to take control of our destiny. However, we must be careful with our goals and aspirations for the future, making sure we have truly found out what we really want and are not being controlled by our conditioning.

I dont let my failures control me, sure they effect me, but only in the way to not do them again. The future isn't always 100% your way so you can't control the far future but i guess if you were going to scold me on that and say " if i drop this piece of chalk on the ground it will break" true...but what if it hits your shoe and lands on the ground without breaking...the future can't be controled by you only your actions can determine what the future will probably hold for you.

I think most of us allow the past to control us, but the present and the future is what we need to deal with.

It does not necessarily control me, but it motivates me. Both of them are almost even. My past has been a basis of what I do in the present, I try to try avoid past mistakes, try to improve past actions, etc. My future drives me to strive more, to reach my goals, attain achievements. I believe that both of them come hand in hand for me. Just to break the tie I am leaning more to the FUTURE.

Our past is what determines our future, both in this world and the next.

I believe my past influences me more, since I already know
what happened then, as opposed to not knowing what's going
to happen in the future...
I can base my decisions on things that have already happened...

Your past! Because your future decisions are almost always based on the experience of the past. (sensory input )

The Great Zen Masters say to cling to neither, not even the present! Content yourself with the matter at hand, there is nothing else.
