I live in a densely wooded area of the gulf coast. each year i've seen one lightning bug flying around.( I know its not the same one every year )

so they can live here, how can i bring more to my area? can they be ordered like ladybugs?

There are probably more you just aren't seeing them. You would have to talk to your local extension office to see if you could buy more.

They only live for 2 days after they emerge as adults from the larva stage. You would have to bring in a helluva lot to get them to start reproducing. You can probably order them through some research supply company. I see the labs at work ordering all kinds of insects. I'll check at work and see what company they use. Might be kind of expensive though

I live on an island in the gulf and we have the same problem. Due to the spraying for mosquito's, I have not seen as many as I did in the past. I do not know about ordering them. Will look and let you know.

You can not order them like ladybugs . Most likely the reason you don't see them is because of misquito spraying in the area. The chemicals used to kill misquitoes will kill the lightening bugs also. We had that problem at my mom's until she made them stop spraying around her house this year.

you can order them on line just yahoo it and it will take you where you need to go but some States do not let you mail bugs

i dont think so but you can google it. or go to you local nursery. or you could contact your local botanical gardens.
