My doctor says anything between 120 and 160 is normal. I had heard about the rate varying between boys and girls, and I asked the lady doing my ultrasound. She said she's seen too many examples to the contrary to believe that.

Yes, boys can have faster heart beats. I have heard that girls heart beats are over 140 and boys are slower. When I was born, in 1977, my mom told me they didn't have ultrasounds of course, and since my heart beat was faster than 140 the doctor told her, correctly, that I was a girl before I was born. However, my son had a heart beat of 160 for almost every month I went to the doctor, and my doctor told me that the heart beat is a very inaccurate gender predictor. So, I'm pretty sure since I had a boy with a fast in utero heart beat, I would pretty much discount the fact that faster heart beats means your're having a girl.

First, the heart rate in an unborn baby is always faster in the beginning of pregnancy. Second, lots of people believe it's different for a boy and girl. My first son was really fast and stayed that way all through my pregnancy. Lots of people told me he would be a girl because of that. My second son was slower and stayed that way...the only way to tell the sex 100% for sure is to look between their legs at birth :)

That's an old wives' tale.
They say that girls will have higher heart rates than boys. But a) the heart rate changes all the time, depending on the baby's age, the baby's activity, and what you've been eating; and b) both of my girls should have been boys if the theory were true.
It didn't work for anyone I know.
Sorry.

some people say that they differ, but really each baby is slightly different boy or girl, there is no way to tell by the rate of the heart beating. Anyone who says they do is listening to old wives tales.

Studies have shown that there is no difference in fetal heartbeat until you have given birth.
