The events of September 11, 2001. It genuinely shook the US, but the world even looked on in awe and shock. And it led to a change of the world and the way security is cared for in all countries.

Its a difficult question. If you include medical and technological breakthroughs I would have to say the popularization of computers and the internet was huge I think its self explanatory for a million reasons. Also cloning and stem cell research is a biggie. But if you dont include breakthroughs I have to go with either 1-9/11 which made us realize that we are completely vulnerable to terrorism (although we should have realized it earlier)2-American president caught cheating with his intern. Massive embarrassment for the country lasted a year and greatly affected Clintons presidency he was nearly impeached.

well...so many events have happened in the past decade. tradegies, sporting events...etc But i feel that 1 of the majorly important events was the hurricane that shook the whole of america, katrina. it was a really heart-breaking incident. it has of course taught people to love what they have. i know i learnt that

globally - Y2K we all saw how stupid and gullible we were and ready to calm our fears by shopping
nationally - Election 2000 for US we all saw that votes can be skewed and recounted until whoever is deemed to have power gets it, and those who are not to be considered voters are not counted
locally- the day I decided to get our family out of debt, and 2 years and hard work got out and now 4 years later still out of debt
