Depends on the guy, but the best gifts are ones you wouldn't necessarily get for yourself, but that make your life better somehow - more fun, easier, that sort of thing. If he has a hobby, a gift certificate for something he can use for his hobby is good.

If money's an issue, a home-made gift certificate for A Day Of Your Own is a good one. The kind of breakfast, lunch and dinner he likes, interspersed with some activity he enjoys, plus an intimate massage.

One of the best gifts I've given my husband was to take over his major weekly chore, lawn mowing, so he could spend time on his hobbies, or working on projects he never seems to get to that he wants to see done. I mowed our (very large) lawn all summer to give him time to play, dream and get other things off his "to do" list.
