I mean a name other than flagella

Sorry, but it seems that the tail of the sperm is (and is called) a flagellum. The piece between the head and the tail is the midpeice, perhaps that's what you were looking for. Check out the links for some info and figures. At one point in the late spermatid phase during maturation (see second link) it's called the axial filament, maybe this is what you were looking for?
