The whole plot is the same.... someone getting to Alaska and finding out there is a mixup with their job.... fiance(e) breaking up with them..... meeting lots of eccentric characters in the small town in Alaska... SAME FREAKIN SHOW, except with a girl playing the lead instead of a guy.

Everything nowadays is a rip-off of something else.

Virtually every idea that writers can come up with has already been used. So, yes, it is similar to Northern Exposure is some ways.

But it's how writers come up with a new spin on an old story that makes it interesting or not.

I thought the show was witty, clever and resourceful. The scene where Marin plays tug of war with the raccoon over her wedding dress was pretty damn funny. The scene in the sweat house was also good. The hairdryer blowing out all the electricity was pretty clever.

All and all it's much better than most of the crap on tv now.

Never saw Northern Exposure. Got a good chuckle out of Men In Trees. I think it is filmed north of Vancouver, BC. I recognized some of the scenery from episodes of MacGyver. There is no rabies, skunks or raccoons in Southeast Alaska. Except for Haines and Skagway there are no roads or bus service to Vancouver. But then again it is just fiction.
