Does this mean that the firewall is blocking the wireless network from working? Is it possible to be connected wirelessly and have a firewall protection at the same time?

Very confused- That's my life these days!

Fire walled means this connection is firewalled. You can right click on this connection in Network Connection, then Properties. Under advanced Tab this option can be turned off or on. Now the reason it says it's not connected, because it's not connected. You need connect your PC by doing a right click on it's icon on lower right corner of your screen and select View Available Network, and connect to the network that you want or can.
