when dealing with an addiction that is yours the first thing you have to do is accept you do have a problem and that problem is out of control. second thing to do is to get help.
when dealing with an addiction that is not yours you need to not take on the responsibilities of the addict. you need to tell them the truth of their addiction and how it affects you and others who care about them. then you need to let the addiction go. don't cover up for it. don't protect the person from the results of their own addiction. let them deal with it.

Well, first, is it your addiction or are you dealing with an addict? It depends on what you are addicted to also. If you're addicted to drugs/alcohol, that is one area. Another is sex and another is work. You need to be a bit more specific. If it is drugs/alcohol for you or anyone else, I have seen firsthand that NA/AA breed recidivism and relapse. Actually, I cannot go on without a bit more information from you. I'm sorry.

90 meetings in 90 days with a 12 step program... if the program does not include co-dependents anonymous then include it after 9 months to one year of sobriety and or individual therapy to deal with the underlying issues of dependency

Find something you're good at....focus on that. Learn how to play a musical instrument...it worked for me. It was a great release.
