For me, it would be Wesley from William Goldman's "The Princess Bride." (Yes, this is the book the movie is based on--it is SO much better. I really enjoy the movie, but this...wow.)
He is such a jerk, but he's not a bad person. It's hard to tell why he's in love with Buttercup--is it just physical attraction? I want to ask him that. (He's basically a genius in the book, and she's a raving idiot.)
