It seems that people use this word so frequently.....I'm waiting for someone to call their parakeet their hero! Don't get me wrong...there are many people who do courageous, noble things, but shouldn't the word hero be reserved for someone who saves someone's life?.......what do you think?

I agree. I really hate it when they use the term "Hero" for someone who plays sports. You shouldn't be called a hero unless you've saved someone's life of protected someone from harm.

the word "hero" can mean many things, to many different people. I think a hero can be a teacher who teaches someone who has had a very difficult time, with reading, to read. I think a "hero" can be a mother (or father) who has raised her family all by herself, while working and going to college. I think the word "hero" can refer to an old mans dog, who has saved him from a life of depression. I am wondering, if there are many more "heros" than our world gives credit for. maybe if we could just step back, and take a moment to think about it, we can notice all the wonderful people in this world, and realize all of the "heros" that have made us look at life more passionately, and joyously, and have brought us emotional prosperity.
whoever said "we don't need another hero?" how could we ever live without them, and who would want to?

Yes, just because you're a firefighter doesn't make you a bloody hero. Maybe if you got paid nothing for your efforts, but that is not the case.

For that matter, I always hated the standard college entrance essay asking you to write about a personal hero of yours. I had no heroes. I had role models, I had people I looked up to, but I had no heroes.

My cat is my hero! Yeah, I hear of people calling celebrities their hero all the time. Hero should be a term reserved for people who actually do something heroic!
