No. I find it a reckless tradition. I held on to my hat, which I now have as a keepsake of my high school graduation. At my college graduation, even the caps were a rental, and it was returned in the same condition in which it was rented.

In 1964 I threw my cap in the air when I graduated High School.
If we had worn caps and gowns when I graduated college I would have thrown that cap too.

I just went in later and got my diploma in high school and graduate school. My college mailed one to me. I certainly didn't frame them. College was great, but I didn't feel any need to attend the ceremony. In high school I learned how to say ouch in Japanese. I learned even less in graduate school.

I threw mine but not too high. I paid too much to lose it or have it ruined. Now I have a keepsake of the good times when I was carefree.

I tossed it, but I also caught it, so I kept with tradition, and also kept my hat.
