The situation is: I'm going to visit family in another state. I want to bring my laptop along to show my family how WONDERFUL I am on the computer! I did find a little push-button-thing at the top, above the lighted bar---- it's a little wireless icon with sound-waves on both sides of th e signal-thing. I did find it.
When I press that button----- a popup dialog box appears on the lower right side saying: HP WIRELESS ASSISTANT, WLAN: ON and if I press it again:--- It says: HP WIRELESS ASSISTANT, WLAN: DISABLED.
Now- with my limited computer-brain.....this means that the assistant is notifying me that the local wireless network is either enabled or disabled.
Futher: I want to make sure, ahead of time, that when I leave the state with my laptop.....that I can use the laptop, connect to the internet and be protected. That's my GOAL.

Depends on the laptop. On mine, it's on the front left corner, like an on/off switch. I have seen on others that it could also be located on the lower right side.

mine's on the left side. You could check your user manual. If you don't have it, there is probably a copy on the manufacturer's website.
