Do you really want the whole truth about a person or would you rather find out a little at a time? A large part of socialization and subsequent friendship is getting to know someone. Giving a little information at a time helps you to figure out who your friends are and who will use the information to hurt or manipulate you. Self preservation is the reason no one tells the whole truth about themselves. Even animals keep things to themselves. They use camouflage to hide the fact that they are vulnerable right?

Because telling the whole truth about yourself gives it all away, you have nothing left to keep, which makes you vulnerable and open.Depending on who the person is you tell the "whole truth" to they have all the info to either throw in your face or help. 50/50 chance. Either use it against you or use it for you. 50/50 chance. It's a risk. A big one at that and many just don't wonna take that chance, Even with the ones they love the most. Also most that don't tell the whole truth have told the whole truth in the past and it came back to bite them in the "booty" so they don't any more hence the 50/50 chance I was speaking of earlier.

The main thing to remember is that, regardless if you're in business, people are always "selling" themselves. Whether it be an attractive guy/lady, they're going to exaggerate the truth and leave out the bad. They want to present themselves in a good manor. Everyone has skeletons in their closet, but it's not something you portray to an aquaintence. Some people are habitual liars though; have to watch out for those. All-in-all, most people lie to make themselves look good, and to boost their confidence when communicating with this highly difficult, superficial world. Everybody does it to a certain extent...

Most of the time people are afraid to tell the whole truth about themselves because of fear of judgement. They want someone to know who they are as a person before they let you see the skeletons in their closet, then maybe you will still stick around. Also because of insecurity.

To tell the whole truth to others, would be silly.
But a person should at least be able to tell the whole truth to themselves.

The truth hurts and it's easier to lie and make you think they are better than they really are, instead of being rejected by you. Sometimes you need to give them a second chance and sometimes they don't. There are different levels of lying and some lies are important and unforgivanle and some lies are for our own good (very rarely but it happens.)

No one knows the whole truth about themselves...
Only God knows that...
Fear and pride keep many from telling what they know about themselves...

I think it is because we all want to believe the best about ourselves. When a person only believes the good things, it makes it difficult to know the "truth" about himself.

I don't have a problem telling the truth about myself. I live my life honestly and openly. Anyone who has a problem with who I am or how I live, it's their problem....not mine.
The quote "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to decieve" is one that I live by.
