In the early and mid 70s a typical outfit for a girl would be bell bottom jeans and a peasant top ( flowered cotton, elastic neckline with either short puffy sleeves or long billowy sleeves.) No bra. A suede fringed jacket. And 4'' platform clogs. Jewelry was usually handmade looking, like beads made from wood or seeds or shells and of course people still wore peace symbols and POW bracelets if you cared at all about the guys imprisoned in Vietnam. And headbands, embroidered, leather or suede,or beaded. As the 70s started to end, disco was influencing fashion. Jeans got skinnier, heels were back, full skirted dresses were coming back and hair was getting bigger, ala Farah Fawcett.

They wore leisure suits, bell bottoms, button down shirts with huge collars (don't forget to leave most of the shirt unbuttoned), and big loud flowery prints.

As for hairdo, they had 'fros. Some of the women had long, bone straight hair that was parted in the middle.

For shoes and accessories, try granny-styled sunglasses and platform shoes (for both guys and chicks!).

My favorite:
Hip hugging bell bottoms (maroon) with a large leather belt.
A fuzzy black gray sweater that hugged my top.
A large cross on a chunky chain.
Earth Shoes (shoes with a lift under the sole to make the sole higher than the heel).

They wore Afros and clothes with bright colors. There clothes had huge patterns. For example, they had big circles, squares, or flowers. They wore huge earrings. They wore the peace symbol. You can wear a shirt that is loose fitting and has a huge pattern. You can also wear bell bottom pants. You can wear platform shoes or wedge heels.

Bell-bottom "hip-huggers"......"go-go pants....sleeveless midriff tops....vests.....short "shift" dresses with boots (the stretchy pull on ones were very popular).....false eyelashes.....wigs (big hair)....big and shiny earrings....some vinyl clothing was popular...platform shoes (as I recall I fell twice, breaking bones in my ankles & feet)......colored pantyhose......A-line short dresses and so much more. I was in my twenties during the 70s and I had a great time with clothes, hair, makeup and DISCO!!!
