Latitudes are lines around the earth and parallel with the equator. A line drawn from it to the centre of the earth would make an angle of 41 degrees with a similar line drawn from the equator. 41 degrees North means it's North of the equator, of course.

New York City is 40 degrees north so 41 degrees North is about 60 miles north. (each degree north and south and along the equartor is 60 nautical miles)

hard to explain on this kind of forum but here goes a try.

draw a circle with a straight line running through the middle (left to right and passing through the center)

this is the earth with the equator.

now draw a line straight up an down and crossing the center...

so what you have is a circle with a cross in it.

the angle made by the equator and the north pole is 90 degrees. if you
now draw an X with the middel of the X on the center of the circle, you will now have an circle with a cross and an X in it.

each of the upper lines of the X represents 45 degrees north. 41 degrees is just a little lower on each side....

It just means latitude of 41 degrees N. Usually, when naming a latitude point, you put the degrees and the "direction" (N S E W).
