Read the manual to find out what kind of memory you have to purchase - it usually depends on the motherboard or brand of computer you have.

If you do end up purchasing the wrong memory, it will either not fit in the slot, or the system will detect an error and refuse to boot up. In this case it will beep at you loudly for screwing up ;)

What do you do with all those memory?
1gb that enough, i think. Even in high graphic or apllication, they will not take ram up to 1 gb. Im using 1gb ram and i still doing surfing while my photoshop running and also antivirus full system scan, no problem.

Go to http://www.crucial.com and fill in the details of your computer. It will tell you what memory you can fit in your motherboard.

If you're not sure if you have free memory slots, go further down the page and install their tiny scanning program and it will scan your motherboard and look to see if you have free slots, also telling you what memory you have installed in whichever sockets there are.

Unless you try forcing the wrong connectors together, nothing. Just won't boot or will not recognize. When you take it out and re-boot it will go back as before.
