let length = x
therefore, width = 7x / 10

perimeter of rectangle = 2 ( length + width)

there fore 68 = 2 ( 7x/10 + x)
68= 17x/5

x= 5 * 68 / 17 (* is the sign for multiplication)
x= 20
width = 7/10 of 20
= 14 answer

Let the length be L. Then the width is 0.7 L. Draw a rectangle; label all 4 sides with these terms. Then add them up and make it = to 68

perimeter of a rectangle =2(l+w)
P=2(l+w)
P=68 and w=7/10xl now substitute these given values into the general equation
68=2(l+0.7l)
68/2=1.7l
34=1.7l
l=34/1.7=20

2006-09-12 21:31:12 · answer #5 · answered by KAT 2 · 0 0

w = (7 / 10) * l => l = (10 / 7) * w
68 = 2*w + 2*l

Substitute the first equation into the second one and solve for w. You should end up with w=14 and l=20.

P = 2(L + W)
W = (7/10)L

68 = 2(L + (7/10)L)
34 = L + (7/10)L
340 = 10L + 7L
340 = 17L
L = 20

W = (7/10)(20)
W = 140/10
W = 14

Length = 20
Width = 14

ANS : 14
