Texas is a big business state. Republicans are more giving to big businesses. For example, Texas has no state income tax; businesses pay the majority of the tax (called franchise tax). Therefore, they must cater to business.
Odd, how the Democrats answering this question indulge in stereotyping and regional bias. That's the same thinking that causes racism.

Because a governor (i can't remember his name) in the late 1800's became too powerful and then they decided to limit the power the governor had (which still holds true today.) Then when there was a political realignment after FDR they went gradually from Democrats to Republicans. Texan's believe in not having a strong Federal govt. (and there is gun rights, anti-abortion, etc.) though in my opinon we are going through another political realignment and will soon be back to pre-FDR days; Also becuase it is a known fact that minorties do not have a high voter-turnout rate the majority of people voting are Republicans (i.e. middle to upper class white men) Hope that helps a little bit!

Money is the key to your question. The poor are mostly illegals from south of the border and the whites are so upset about them that they go the republican way to try and correct the problem. I have no problem with legal immigrants but those who enter illegally need to be returned and I think we should Mexico a thousand dollars a head for every person we catch that came from Mexico. That may get them to patrol the border and stop the flow.
