Try getting the prime factorization of each number (start by dividing each by two). Once you have the prime factorization of each, multiply the common factors together to get your greatest common factor, then divide each number by that.

ex: 12/40
12=2x2x3
40=2x2x2x5

common factors are two 2's which multiply together to make 4. Dividing each by 4, you get 3/10 which cannot be reduced any further.

Now, you can go work out the answer.

BTW - if there are no common factors (this is not the case here as each is divisible by at least 2), then the fraction is already in it's reduced form.

5 cause when you sum them up they add to 50 which is 5+0 which is 5
