What really happens during college Fraternity initiations?

It depends on the fraternity and usually the type of hazings that are a tradition for them.

Most are some form of potentially embarassing or humiliating activities or challenges. Some which were considered "safe" included driving a potential frat member to a location at some distance from campus, making them strip and leaving them there to try to get home stark naked. This has occurred in very cold fall temperatures. Others include eating various forms of rather disgusting foods, carrying feces coated objects for a distance, drinking large quantities of alcoholic beverages, drinking large volumes of water from a large barrel, etc.

Unfortunately, what was considered "safe" has ended in numerous deaths. One "pledge" who was locked naked in the trunk of a car, never made it to his destination, he died from carbon monoxide poisoning. There have been numerous deaths from excessive alcohol consumption, and what many people don't know -- is about the deaths from excessive forced water consumption.

Fraternities and sororities can be a positive social experience in college leading to lifetime friendships, but not when hazing is raised to this type of level. Really check into the history and reputation of the sororities or fraternities if you're thinking of pledging.

Just ask the parents, families and friends of those kids. I met a Dad whose son died in NY state from a hazing. Unfortunate and very unnecessary. A real tragedy.

All KINDS of crap. I remember naked guys hanging upside down from trees outside my apartment building with honey all over them during initiation time when I was in college. It is CRAZY!

A lot of really bizarre stuff. I once dated a guy who had to shove a stick of butter up his behind in a frat initiation. He swears they didn't do anything else to him back there, but it sure sounds like they were lubing him up doesn't it. We aren't together anymore. It kind of freaked me out.
