Certainly don't waste your money or risk disease or pregnancy by getting them from a gas station. Those are crap. Just pick some up at walmart or another dept store, and use the self-check out if they have one. Otherwise, take it through the checkout and don't worry, the clerks see them all the time. Better safe and embarrased.
