I'm running windows xp and it's not anything to do with my speakers.on my volume controle the spdif is'nt lit up .

the balance bar is not lit and the speakers are pluged in.and only one of them puts oout sound and i have went out and bought a nother set and they do the same

could be any of the these things 1 cable is not completely plugged in to the speaker jack. 2 the balance is not set correctly in the volume control. 3 small animal has chewed the wire or the wire broke.

hook a pair of headphones up to the pc or try a different set of speakers

Try this, go to your task bar and double click the volume button. See if the balance slider is centered on all the options. Also make sure that the speaker is not disconnected and that it too is centered in the middle. Other then that get a hold of support at where ever you got your sound card from. Good luck!

Well, plug it in? I know that's sounds lame.

Um, if it's a laptop with a speakers built in then I don't know. sorry. And don't get the speakers confused with the fan/vent, I did that.
