My daughter is being breastfed and her mother is on a no fat diet. Could this be the cause of a problem for my daughter such as gas? LOTS OF GAS!!!
If so, what should the mother do in changing her diet to help the baby?

It COULD. It could be the high protien high carb diet. Her mother should really be eating a well balanced diet. Fat does not make you fat, per se. More calories than you burn make you fat. Doesn't matter if it's from carbs, fat, or protien, you CAN and will get fat with any of these IF you are consuming more calories than you are burning.

She should start by eating some fat. Fat is *crucial* for a baby's development for the first two years of the child's life. (This is why pediatricians recommend giving your baby whole milk [as opposed to 2% or skim] after one year of age.) Infants/toddlers need the extra fat in their diet for proper growth and brain development. By your wife breastfeeding your daughter while on a no-fat diet, she's essentially giving her skim milk. This will cause your daughter not to thrive. For a while, your wife's body will use some of its own fat to supplement (this is why breastfeeding women in third world countries where the diet is not well-balanced or healthy can still breastfeed semi-successfully) but eventually it will take a huge toll on your wife's body, and she could become ill/sickly/generally unhealthy.

If your wife is eating a lot of vegetables, this is great, but there are several that are known to cause gas in breastfed infants. The ones that immediately come to mind are beans, onions, broccoli and cabbage. There are more, but I can't remember all of them. Do a search at Yahoo! or Google for "gas causing foods during breastfeeding" or something like that.

Breastfed babies, as a rule, tend to have less gas than bottle fed babies. What I want to know is why on earth is this child's mother on a no-fat diet when she is breastfeeding?? A newborn needs a certain amount of fat in his or her diet. It's vital to nutrition and early development. Fat isn't evil and it isn't the bad thing that society had made it out to be. A certain amount of fat in one's diet is necessary to be as healthy as possible. Your wife/gf's concern right now should be the health of the baby that she is breastfeeding and NOT losing baby weight. That should be secondary and will come naturally with breastfeeding.

Due to the lack of fat in the breast milk the child's digestive system isn't being exposed to things that it NEEDS like a certain amount of fat. Fat will help the milk to break down more slowly thus causing less gas for the baby. Please tell the child's mother to change her diet NOW. There are healthy ways to integrate fat into the diet. Nuts, avocados, olive oil and cheeses are all rich in good fats. A balanced diet is what she needs right now, NOT a fatless one.

When breastfeeding, the mother should have a balance diet. It is very important for the mother to be healthy. Definitely it will affect the baby because there's not much proteins, carb, etc. from the mother. If she cannot have a balance diet, better to bottle feed the baby.

in the experience that your physician says you're healthful, do not do something to get your self to weigh a lot less, or you'll develop into risky. do not you dare sense like your body ought to be acceptable because it really is what your mom informed you. moms might want to not lower than any situation tell their daughters that there is something incorrect with their bodies. they are meant to be your protection blanket if human beings say a number of those issues to you. this isn't wide-spread. She needs remedy, because if she's that self concious about her personal body that she has to take it out on her daughter, it really is not correct. For now, do not listen for your mom. you're healthful. bypass to a counselor or someone at church or each person you may have self belief about what's occurring at the same time with your mom because she's crying out for help at present, regardless of if she would not comprehend it.

diet + breastfeeding= no good. Watching what you eat OK. What you eat and how much does affect your milk quality -no fat probably means more veggies which could mean more gas. Maybe try to find a sample meal plan for breastfeeding moms online to help your wife and daughter Good Luck.

This could cause gas, but usually most babies get gas either way, since sucking and breathing are new, the baby may be ingesting more air than milk. Their are gas remedies for babies like milicon and some natural remedies check the sites out...the second site has an herbal tea that mom can drink to help with gas in babies...

Mom should be discussing her eating habits with the doctor or a nutritionist. She needs to be eating for the baby if she is breastfeeding rather than eating to loose weight. She has to decide what it is she wants to do, breastfeed or loose weight.

Maybe your child's mother should eat a sensible diet if she is planning on feeding the baby from her body. Damn, cheif. That's common sense right there. I don't care who you are.
