You can get a 4 year degree or a 6 year degree (B.S. or M.S.). A hydrologist is more of an engineer type, but a hydrogeologist is more of a groundwater expert. If you are interested in environmental consulting, then hydrogeologist would be the way to go. If you are more interested in dams and such, hydrologist is your gig.
